Eden Trattoria opened its doors in 2007 and has become a landmark at beautiful Humber Bay. Serving fresh pasta, pizza and creative yet simple dishes, Mark Mastrangelo and his staff have come up with a winning formula of excellent Italian cuisine and exceptional service.
Q: How would you describe your cuisine?
Mark: Simple Italian. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when you’re serving universally loved dishes like pasta and pizza. Home made sauce and fresh ingredients are what people want.
Q: Yet Eden’s also known for its exceptional fare such as fresh seafood and carne like the famous steak and lamb. What is your secret?
Mark: We like to use sauces and condiments as accents so that you don’t lose the flavour of the main dish. Of course, you have to cook to order. As for the seafood, it’s delivered fresh daily and we infuse our menu with specials that feature that fish of the day.
Q: Given the original location on St. Clair, why the move to this neighbourhood?
Mark: 9 years ago, my family and I saw great opportunity in the area although we didn’t anticipate this much growth, which is a great bonus. Of course, the location with the view was also a reason for the investment. But when it comes down to it, the most essential elements are good food, reasonable prices and service. I take pride in my staff’s ability to deliver in these areas.
Q: Your patio is famous for its view and ambiance and the summers must be your prime season, but what about the slower winter months?
Mark: The warmer months are definitely our peaks but you’d be surprised at how we’ve sustained consistency during those frigid times of the year. With private parties, special themes such as our famous fresh oyster Thursdays and take-out/delivery which adds convenience to our affluent but busy client base, we’re holding up quite well.
Q: How concerned are you with the imminent arrival of competitors in the area?
Mark: The more the better. I’d like to see a wide variety of cuisine options in the area. This will naturally drive more traffic to Humber Bay which in essence benefits everyone.
